Sautéed Cabbage

Sautéed cabbage is a simple, yet flavorful side dish perfect to pair alongside almost any meal. It gets its rich flavor from the butter, which balances out with the slight note of pepper. Carmelized brown bits add in another savory element. I dare say that this can turn cabbage haters into cabbage lovers!

Ingredients:

- 1 small head of cabbage

- 3 tbsp. unsalted butter

- pinch of salt

- freshly cracked black pepper

- 1 tsp. garlic powder

Directions:

Cut the head of cabbage into thin strips. Make sure that you cut out the core by angling the knife and cutting out a triangle-like shape. Melt the butter in a skillet until frothy. Add in the cabbage and sprinkle on a pinch of salt. Not only will this help flavor the dish, it will also help the cabbage break down by drawing out moisture. Toss the cabbage around and then allow it to brown on the bottom. All these brown bits are flavor pockets! When you begin to see browning, add in the garlic powder and about five cracks of black pepper. This depends completely on your taste, so feel free to add in more or omit these two ingredients altogether. The dish is finished when the cabbage is browned to your liking. Enjoy!
