Happy new year! This past winter break, I had the great pleasure of seeing one of my childhood best friends who is currently in college. We caught up over dinner at Elm in New Canaan, CT. Let me tell you, the atmosphere of New Canaan during the holiday season is wonderful. Twinkling lights adorned the trees while locals stopped by restaurants and gelato stores.
We were seated at the "kitchen table," right in front of all the action -- cooking, plating, and serving. As a cook myself, I found this experience exhilarating. It was a behind-the-scenes look into the world of restaurants.

My friend enjoyed the kale salad with tart cherry, smoked cheddar, and pistachio (we were reassured after the whole romaine outbreak). I ordered the spaghetti cacio e pepe with parmigiana and cracked pepper. Much to my delighted self, the pasta was filled with cheesy goodness. An added mushrooms and shallots side paired perfectly. And lastly, my sister had the roasted chicken with creamy polenta and mushroom fricasse and a side of french fries and garlic aioli. Topped with shaved truffle, these fries hit the spot.
