Located right in the heart of downtown Williamsburg lies a quaint restaurant steeped in character. Walking in, I was reminded of the small taverns and cafes that I saw in New Orleans. I was immediately met with the bright tangerine and turquoise walls and silver-tinned ceiling.

We drank glasses of "historic tap water" while we looked through the menu. To start, a charcuterie board with whole grain mustard, horseradish, and mostarda accompanied with a faux gras mousse. The waiter explained that it was made out of chicken rather than duck or goose.

I enjoyed the French dip, which had plenty of umami flavor, while my sister dug into the Mac and cheese with a side of Edward's Virginia ham. I have to say that this was comfort food at its finest. The grilled baguette filled with roast beef and cheese was the perfect carrier for the savory beef broth and caramelized onions. I also had a taste of the Mac and cheese, and I can say that it was cheese heaven. Edward's Virginia ham was an interesting touch of flavor and texture to the dish. It's almost-crispiness countered nicely against the noodles.
